AC Current Sources

A constant current source, also called independent current source, is a power source that delivers a steady specified current rather than a constant voltage as in a voltage source.

An AC constant current source provides precise steady alternating current at a set current and a specific frequency, regardless of changes on the load or input. The goal of an AC constant current source is to maintain constant current. The output voltage is determined by the load.

ACS series is a high power programmable AC constant current source for continuous operation, power capacity ranging from 500VA to 800kVA. Adopting PWM high frequency technology & IGBT regulation mode, the ACS series AC constant current source features fast response, high constant current, high accuracy and good stability.

Generally, the high power programmable AC constant current source is supplied as per customer request case by case. Output current is selectable from 50A to 15000A (15kA). The output frequency defaults at 40Hz to 70Hz variable, selectable up to 1500Hz. Open voltage is normally 5V or 10V, selectable at other points 15V 20V 30V 60V 100V. Both single phase AC current source and three phase AC current source can be supplied from the ACS series.

Remote control via RS232 is provided by default, supporting ASCII or ModBus-RTU commands. It can be changed to RS485 interface. There is option of 0-5V or 0-10V analog control. Option of more advanced remote control is available with LIST Mode function and STEP Mode function.

The ACS series high power programmable AC constant current source is widely used in many AC current test applications:

  • Trip-off tests and thermal tests of circuit breakers, switches, relays and fuses
  • Thermal and magnetic tests of electrical components
  • Validation of contactors, coils and transformers
  • Calibration and analysis of instruments and sensitive electronics
